From the East Side of Manhattan and other points South:
* Take the FDR Drive North to the Willis Avenue Bridge to the Major Deegan Expwy/(I-87)
North. The Major Deegan can also be accessed via the Triboro Bridge or the Cross Bronx
Expressway.
* Merge onto I-87 North (New York State Thruway) toward Albany; stay on I-87 for
approximately 20 miles.
* Take Exit 9 toward US-9/Tarrytown (0.2 miles)
* Turn left onto White Plains Road/NY-119 (0.2 miles).
* Turn right onto US-9/S Broadway.
* Travel 2.8 miles. The entrance to Phelps is on the left.
From the West Side of Manhattan and other points South:
* Take the Henry Hudson Parkway North.
* Henry Hudson Parkway becomes Saw Mill Parkway (North).
* Exit onto the Taconic Parkway North.
* Stay in the right land, and take the first exit off the Taconic: Pleasantville - Route 117.
* At the end of the ramp, turn left at the traffic light onto Route 117.
* Continue West 3 miles.
* Use the left lane to go to Rockwood Road.
* The first left turn on Rockwood Road is the Hospital entry Road..
From New Jersey, Rockland, and other points West:
* Cross the Tappan Zee Bridge.
* Take the first exit on right, Route 9.
* At the end of the ramp go North on Route 9.
* The Hospital is 3 miles North on the left.
Traveling west from White Plains or Connecticut:
* Take the Cross Westchester Expressway (287 West) to Exit 3, Sprain Brook Parkway north.
* Take the Sprain, which becomes the Taconic State Parkway (follow the signs towards Albany).
* Take the first exit off the Taconic, Pleasantville-Route 117.
* At the end of the ramp, turn left at the traffic light onto Route 117.
* Continue west 3 miles.
* Use the left lane to go to Rockwood Road.
* The first left turn on Rockwood Road is the Hospital entry road..
From the North:
* Take Route 9 south to Sleepy Hollow.
* Phelps is on the right just south of the junction of Route 9 and Route 117.
Alternate Route:
* Take Route 9A south to Route 117.
* At the traffic light at the end of the ramp, turn right onto Route 117.
* Continue west for 3 miles.
* Use the left lane to go to Rockwood Road.
* The first left turn on Rockwood Road is the Hospital entry road.
The James House Mansion, an historical 22-room Victorian Gothic stone building constructed in 1851, is situated on 66 acres overlooking the Hudson River. The architect of this family summer home was John Butler Snook, the man who also designed Grand Central Station.
